You’ve welcomed a new puppy into your heart and home.. congratulations! There’s lots of things your puppy will need to learn to be well behaved in the world, at home and emotionally resilient too. Let us guide you on how to teach life skills to them.
Our puppy classes in St Albans are fun, informative, and a fantastic investment for your new life with your dog. You can connect and join with other new puppy guardians at the class and join a private facebook group to discuss how your puppy is progressing with their training week on week.
You and your puppy will learn all about:
Puppy Socialisation and habituation
We will cover dog body language – our favourite subject! We will teach you to know whether your dog (or other dogs) are comfortable in a situation or not – this is important to notice so your puppy doesn’t become scared of a situation and can prevent potential emotional and behavioural problems later on. We can teach you subtle dog body language signals to look for in other dogs so you can avoid any problems in the park.
We will teach you how to handle your puppy appropriately to habituate them to situations where it’s imperative they are handled for their wellbeing – such as at the veterinarians.
We will teach you how to set up environments so that your puppy experiences sights, sounds and surfaces during the critical socialisation period – it’s imperative they experience different environments during the window 3 – 12 weeks or they may become fearful of these situations later on which can be difficult to treat and costly. Prevention is always better than cure.
We were delighted to win an award for our puppy classes. We received an excellence award for innovative puppy training sessions in Hertfordshire in LUX Life Magazine’s Pet Product & Services Awards.
Basic Manners
We will teach basic manners such as: sit, say, lie down, hand targetting, eye contact (these can all be very useful in day to day situations when you would like your dog to relax, be patient or focus on you).
Life – saving skills
We will teach how to leave items on the floor (people leave so much rubbish on the floor which is dangerous for your puppy and can lead to expensive vet bills.) We will teach drop so you can have your comfy slipper back!
For times you’re out in the park, we can also teach your puppy to come back when called when they’re off lead – saving stress, worry and embarrassment.
Settling down and being calm
We have guidance on teaching your puppy to settle down quietly while you’re busy working or helping your children with their homework. We also can suggest fun activities to keep them occupied.
Some more manners
We have some loose leash walking solutions so your puppy learns to walk nicely on the lead down the street without pulling. We can teach them how to not jump up on you, others, the kitchen counter in search of food ( this one may be relevant once their little legs get bigger!).
And more!

Really enjoyed the 5 week puppy training in Feb/Mar 22. Lisa gave me so many ideas to help my pup with training and recall. It was a great way to build my confidence in training and to make other puppy owner friends 😊
Lisa provided top class training sessions over a 5 week period. Great attention to detail, demonstrating how to act during the session before handing over to us and then checking in on each dog to help improve and make sure we were doing it correctly. I highly recommend Albany Pet Services.
Had a great experience attending beginners puppy classes, and have signed up for the next intermediate class. Great training methods and support in the class, and useful tips on other issues we had with our puppy. Would highly recommend.
